Rainbow Gulch

Yes, it was windy up there.  Leave my bangs alone...

Avery had to sit on the carrier.  I should have brought a purple cushion for her highness' heiny.

Our hike to Rainbow Gulch was a lot of fun. And a lot of work. It was gradually downhill all the way to the reservoir, and consistently and gradually uphill all the way back. It wasn't too long of a hike, about 3.5 miles total. Riley was a trooper and made it the whole way without a problem. Avery was carried the whole way, and didn't even want to be put down near the reservoir. She kept freaking out that the "water was coming" and worrying about waves. Ugh. We had to remind her over and over that the reservoir was not an ocean. Sheesh. That hike was the first time that I had to abandon the high back carry in the mei tai. My lower back was killing me going downhill with Avery on my back. I stopped and re-tied the lower straps around my hips. Voila, no more back pain. Sweet.

The girls, particularly Riley, had to stop and get a picture taken on every rock. Silly children. Avery is a little ham, always wanting pictures taken of her...
