Appointments

Well, I'm feeling quite buried under all the upcoming appointments we have. I live in constant terror that we will forget one of them. I guess that's what people keep calendars for. Who knew? Rudi already had his pre-op appointment this week, so that's one down. On Monday we have his psych eval for disability. On the 1st he has his medical eval for said disability benefits. On the 2nd he has his gall bladder surgery (more on that later) and on the 8th he has some stupid mandatory seminar for unemployment benefits, which I haven't told him about yet. On the 7th is back-to-school night. Remind me to pick up one of those new-fangled calendar things, please!

So, Rudi's surgery. We don't know what time it is yet, but we do know it's in Denver. Hurray. It's supposed to be outpatient, but who knows? He'll need a driver (me!) I spoke to Rae at the girls school and she's really bending over backwards to help us out here. She said that she can take Riley and Avery all day that day, and that if we're not back in the Springs by 5:30, she'll watch them after that. She also said that I can bring Avery all day on Tuesday as a trial run, so we're not all the way in Denver with a child freaking out at school in the Springs. She also refused to charge me for the extra days. No need to tell myself why I love this school so much! Of course, all this planning is irrelevant if Rudi's appointment is at, say, 8 am necessitating a 6am departure time. Then I'd have to take the kids. Horror!! I tell myself that the scheduling people at the Denver VA know we're in the Springs, and they'd never give us such an early appointment. Then I tell myself that, well, we're dealing with the VA, so anything goes. I love the people that work at the VA, don't get me wrong, they are a uproariously entertaining bunch, the actual people who work there. But they're overworked and underpaid, dealing with a VERY needy population of people. Anyway, his surgery was supposed to be on the 16th, but they couldn't get a surgeon that day, so I'm afraid they're going to try to squeeze as many surgeries on the 2nd as super-humanly possible. The last time Rudi had "outpatient surgery" it turned into a two-night stay at the VA hospital. I am hoping this doesn't happen this time. Especially since weekends are not the ideal time to be hospitalized. Trust me.

Geez, I just helped Riley brush her teeth, and I tell you what, the fissures in her molars are SO deep I have to scrub will all my might to get them clean. I DEFINITELY need to get her molars sealed. These are her brand-new six-year molars, so they should be sparkly all the time. I mean, seriously, Riley is a champ, I have to scrub them SO HARD, really put some elbow grease into it!! I also realize that I can't let her brush her own teeth. I have to do it myself at least once a day. Ugh. Our tax refund, I've already decided, is to go to getting Riley's cavities fixed and her molars sealed. My teeth will have to wait. Hopefully Rudi will get social security disability and I can start getting my teeth fixed!

You know what? My camera is out of batteries. I had pictures of the zoo (again). Well, tomorrow we have a nice hike planned (80 degree weather, yay!!!!) and I'll have tons of pictures to post!
