Snow and Sledding

It is will great embarrassment that I reveal that the girls went sledding for the first time yesterday.  Yes, the first time.  I wasn't sure where a sled hill was, but searched online and found that the most popular sledding hill is at South Portland High, which is about .5 miles away.  Not too shabby.  Then, we realized that the sleds did not make the cut for the move.  So, Rudi went out in the snow storm to get cheap sleds.

Up the street

Okay, in hindsight, this picture is nearly identical to the one above.  Oh, well :)

Not our house.

Our little house!

Since I am not a native Mainer, I thought for sure that over a foot of snow would guarantee more than one day off of school.  No go.  In fact, I'm not even entirely sure they would have had Wednesday off but that it was a half-day anyway.  Probably would have only had a delay.  So anyway, we went sledding after school yesterday, coming home first to bundle up big-time.

Apparently that sledding hill is THE sledding hill, and it seemed like the whole community was there, which was awesome because the sledding runs were pre-groomed :)  Avery was terrified to go down by herself, so she went on my lap.  Being old, I could go back up the hill only so many times.  Avery is such and outdoor pooper.  She retreated to the car to eat ginger cookies!  Riley had the time of her life, and I enjoyed sledding for the first time in 20 years.  I mean, actually enjoyed it.  It will be a regular activity from now on!
Wind-chapped cheeks!

Eating homemade ginger cookies.

Watch out, the girl's got a snowball and isn't afraid to use it!

Avery hates being outside.  She needs to learn to knit or something, so she can sit inside all day.  Or maybe she'll be a librarian.  Or maybe a prison inmate so she doesn't ever have to go outside.
