Just Some Stuff

So, I think I found a great doctor for the family. At least, he's great on paper. One, he is close to Rudi's age (as in, graduated medical school in 1980). So, Rudi is more likely to listen to him LOL! Second, he is conservative with medication, and is into homeopathic and alternative remedies. Third, he is non-vax friendly, not having vaxed his own children. Fourth, he is a family doctor, so I would have my first very own general practitioner since I left my pediatrician's practice at age 19. Fifth, he is a participating provider with my insurance! Sweetness! The down side is that he is about 30 minutes away. I don't see that as a big problem.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing is how I came to find out about him. When we first moved here, I posted on Motheringdotcommune for recommendations for doctors, mechanics, dentists, and the like in South Portland. A woman messaged me saying that she was in South Portland too, asked how we liked it so far, and if we'd found a doctor yet. I messaged back that we liked it so far, that Riley loves her school, that we are in the Dyer school area of South Portland, etc. She messaged back that two of her sons go to Dyer, that her 6yo son is in Miss Foster's class. I tell her that Riley is also in Miss Foster's class, and who is her son? Turns out, her son is Connor (the one Riley "doesn't like" wink wink). She volunteers at the school every Thursday and said that she loves Riley! How funny is that? Also, they don't vax either. Further, she said that Connor has anxiety problems and that the above mentioned doctor gave them a naturopathic vitamin in lieu of prescription medication and it has worked wonders. Strange how things happen, huh?
So, about the snow...I see that once winter hits, it never goes above freezing again. Which means that the snow never melts, and each subsequent snow storm just adds to what is already on the ground. Now I see why there is a mud season here. Imagine, 5-6 feet of snow melting at once. Yikes! Now I know why everyone has a snowblower. While sledding Rudi and I both found, with dismay, that our trusty 10-year-old Columbia snowboots are kaput. The rubber in one of his boots has about a 6-inch gash. Mine, the spit is separating from the rubber part, leaving about a 5-inch gash. Nice. After sledding, my toes were numb. So, both of us need new boots. Yay, for the budget :( However, I will get mine next month and Rudi will wait because he at least has rain boots that keep his feet relatively warm, while I have neither snowboots nor rainboots. But, since we're on a tighter budget (no longer getting the $900/month in educational benefits) I think I'll get rainboots with wellie warmers, so they can do double-duty and keep my feet warm and dry in the winter and dry in the mud season. Ugh. Did I ever mention how much I HATE rainboots? The heels of my feet slip in them and it drives me insane. I guess I'll just have to deal with it. No, I won't have hardcore hiking boots, but I would rather have something for everyday use anyway.
Oh, yeah, and GO PATRIOTS!!
