Life Is Crap

So, today being the warmest day of the week, and most likely the warmest day we'll have until spring, we decided to go check out Old Orchard Beach. OOB is the closest thing we have to Ocean City here in Maine, with an amusement park and whatnot. Of course, we knew everything would be closed for the season, but we wanted to see the beach...
In preparation, I had the girls get plastic totes and put a towel and change of clothes in it. Wanted to be 100% prepared because I knew they'd get wet. Riley was determined to wear her swimsuit under her clothes.
The beach was absolutely beautiful, with wonderful waves, and the town looked like it would be really cool in the spring and summer. Can't wait to go back. The girls had a blast playing in the water. Riley even got into her bathing suit, which we only allowed her to do for a few minutes before we demanded that she put her clothes back on, and told the girls that they were not to play in the water anymore, but to play in the sand.
Sounds great, huh? So, you ask, why is the title of this post "Life Is Crap"? Well...I'll tell you...
Because the girls dumped their clothes out of the baskets in order to collect sand and water in them, they were in a pile on the beach. A dog walks by, lifts its leg, and pees on Riley's change of clothes. So, I'm off trying to find a store that is open in a seasonal town to get her come clothes. We ended up paying $50 that we didn't want to spend (trying to save for when Ben and Elizabeth come). Oddly enough, the store I bought the clothes in is one of those Life Is Good stores. I think, I'm in here buying clothes to replace the ones that were peed on by a dog. Life is good? Really?
Which brings me to another issue. The woman was very embarrassed and apologetic. She apologized profusely, then went away, only to come back and apologize some more. I accepted her apology, and said something along the line of "stuff happens," but Rudi was not having it and was getting angry. The woman left and Rudi kept ranting about it. To me, the woman apologized, what else does he want? Nothing is going to make Riley's clothes magically dog pee free, so why berate the woman? Does anger fix things? All anger does is raise blood pressure and ruin what was supposed to be a fun day. Just forgive the woman, gosh darnit! The woman said that her dog had never done something like that before, and I have no reason to think otherwise. Now she knows that the dog will do that, and will be more vigilant in the future. Does being angry at her make it more likely that she won't let the dog do it again? I don't think so, so why get angry?
