Halloween Stuff

Riley got invited to a Halloween party held my a classmate the day before Halloween. The thing that sucks about have Riley and Avery in different schools (or no school at all in Avery's case) is that they are no longer a 2-fer. Before, Avery was always invited, or at least welcomed, to events where Riley was invited. Most kids now have no idea who Avery is, and might not even know that Riley even has a little sister. Needless to say, Avery was quite disappointed that she couldn't go to the party. So, I took her to a Halloween event at Borders, which was good enough for her. It's a good thing she went, and that I brought the camera, because that was the only time she wore her ladybug costume. Right after, she decided that she wanted to wear last year's witch costume. The ladybug costume was a wee bit small anyway. Halloween costume sizing is wonky.
Halloween was fun, and trick-or-treating was very fruitful. The girls went to about a street and a half of houses and had to turn home when candy started falling out of their buckets. One elderly couple also have the girls flashlights :) Not even every house was giving out candy (or so I assumed, we don't even try houses without porch lights on. There are a lot of elderly homeowners here, didn't want to disturb them), probably about every third house...
...and we got ONE trick-or-treater at our house! The mother who came to our house told Rudi that our end of the street is so dark that no one ever comes down there. So, what do I do with the 6 bags of candy that we bought? I guess I'll save it for Christmas stockings. The girls don't usually get candy for Christmas (well, maybe one or two candy canes) so they won't care that it's Halloween candy. About four houses up from us, there is a street light and that's where the crowds of children were. Lesson learned for next year...
I went to Toys R Us the day after Halloween to get a couple costumes at 75% off for the girls' dress-up bin. Gotta love those after-Halloween costume sales! I limited myself to two, though, and won't be looking for more. Have to save money for Christmas and birthdays now!
Oh my goodness, almost forgot that I took the kids to a Halloween shindig at the Maine Children's Museum in Portland. I had to do something to occupy them while we waiting for trick-or-treating time. I tell you, Halloween is a tough one, because the kids have to wait all day. At least Christmas happens in the morning!
