We tried to see Spruce Tree House on the same day we did the Petroglyph Point hike, but alas, they were closed :( We had pretty much decided that we weren't going to be able to go, but then our other plans had fallen through (we intended on going to the Four Corners, but the monument is only open F-Su) and Rudi and I mentioned how the Spruce Tree House had a reconstructed kiva (with roof and ladder) and the girls really really really wanted to go into the kiva!

Riley and Avery climbing out of the kiva. It was kind of funny, actually. They both wanted to go up and down the ladder and in and out of the kiva. Finally, I put the kibosh on that and told them that it was time to leave the kiva since they were blocking the ladder and other people wanted to use it. I went up first, and then was treated to the echoing noise of my children fighting and screaming about who would come out first. If only I had a kiva in real life to relegate them to when fighting! Luckily, everyone else found it funny too. Although I can only imagine what the Japanese tourist who took nothing but video caught of it. I can see him showing it to his family back home and they all click their tongues and shake their heads at the behavior of American children ;)
Riley laughing as Rudi tried to squeeze his rotund self through the kiva "door." I'm glad my camera has a good flash, because his derriere sure blocked the light LOL!
