Dangerous Combination

Riley loves reading. Rudi loves reading, and buying books. I love reading, and the library. Rudi loves buying books for Riley. I love checking books out of the library for Riley. Who makes more sense? Riley has a stack of books from the library, in addition to chapter books that she got for Christmas, and yet every time Rudi goes to Borders he buys her a book. Ugh.
Right now she loves the Boxcar Children books, and Rudi has turned her on to the new Nancy Drew books. Apparently, Nancy is 8 in these books. Oddly enough, they're still claiming they were written by Carolyn Keene LOL. Time to drop the charade! She finished the first book and Rudi came home recently with another one. They are a tad above her reading level, at 3.2 (Riley's reading somewhere around 2.7 now, which is pretty darn good seeing as how she just learned to read over the summer!) but she loves them and doesn't give up, and asks when she doesn't know a word. Usually the words she has problems with are names (like Dierdre) and words that refer to something that she has little or no experience with (apparently 8-year-old girls in books are interested in Hollywood and fashion). Without relevant clues, she has a hard time figuring out the word in those cases.
Oh, and Riley and Avery love the show iCarly now. Rudi was making fun of us because we were watching iCarly, for days he made fun of us. Then, yesterday, he confessed that he liked one of the characters that he thought was funny, and started laughing at the program. The girls also are addicted to House of Anubis. Luckily, a new one comes on every weekday, and we've made it an after-dinner routine. Perhaps I encourage them a little too much, but seriously, a mom can only put up with so many years of Max and Ruby before going insane!
