Crescent Beach State Park

We took an afternoon trip to Crescent Beach State Park and spend a few hours there.  It was beautiful!  The weather was about 60 and Riley brought a bathing suit and lobbied her hardest to get us to let her put it on.  Rudi said absolutely not.  I am seriously considering getting her a full wet suit.  If the girl wants to go into Maine water in October, then let her have a wet suit so she can do it safely and comfortably!  I really don't like to put limits on their explorations, so a wet suit would be nice.  I think LL Bean has some...

The beach is in Cape Elizabeth, but was literally only about 5 minutes from our house by car.  It was so close that we didn't even have an opportunity to stop for coffee or get some water or snacks.  We thought we would drive a ways and have plenty of places to stop for our liquid needs.  But no, a hop skip and jump, and we're there!  During the summer, this beach has a snack bar and lifeguards.  I'm sure it can get pretty packed during the summer!  The girls also need water shoes.  They both liked climbing on the rocks, but don't have appropriate shoes.  I'm sure I can find them for a couple of dollars, given that it's already fall.

Riley is wearing a skirt that I had just finished that morning, complete with my first-ever buttonholes.  They're as ugly as sin, but at least the thread is a perfect match so no one can see :)   It has four pockets in the apron on the front, so it was the perfect exploring attire!  By the time we were ready to go, her skirt was falling off of her because of the weight of the shells that she had packed in there.  There were tons of really pretty snail shells too, which the girls tried to keep in separate for-Riley, for-Avery, and for-James piles, but they got all mixed up.

The girls had such fun that we are planning on going back there today.  Yippee!!
Yesterday morning, I put a pork roast in the crock pot and dinner was ready when we came home.  Fabulous!

The girls want to go again today, and we plan to!  The thing about Maine versus Colorado, is that the sun is SO much stronger in Colorado, reaching the daily high temperature by about 10 o'clock.  Here, we have to wait until 1 or 2pm to reach the high temperature.  Then it's dark by 6-6:30.  Poo.

Oh, and I am going to make a beach/picnic blanket to keep in the car.  I plan on using my fabric scraps, so it won't be pretty, but at least it will be functional!

Whoa, kiddo, leave so room on the beach for everyone else! :)
