Crescent Beach Redux and Some Other Stuff

We also went back to Crescent Beach the day after we last went. The girls literally played for hours together without even looking in our direction. Amazing! This time, Rudi and I had the presence of mind to bring chairs, towels, water, and snacks. We sat and actually had several adult, uninterrupted conversations. Wow!
The thing about Maine, is that there are always people out and about, enjoying the weather and the scenery. I've never lived somewhere will so many regularly active people.
I think I finally have the girls' room how I like it. It's been a long process! I'd say it's about 95% done. Just a few things that I need to rearrange, assemble, or put in storage. I'll take pictures when it's done. We went to Lowe's to get a portable heater for their room. It stays pretty warm up there without one, so far, but "pretty warm" is not good enough for Rudi! His first trip to Lowes alone to find a heater was an epic failure. He got a baseboard heater that required re-wiring and putting holes in the wall. No thanks. I love installing and putting things together, but I'm not monkeying around with electrical wiring! He didn't know, though, he thought it plugged in. No biggie, we took it back and I came along to supervise :)
Riley's first parent/teacher conference is on Wednesday. Generally, Rudi stays home with the kids for these kind of things, but this time he immediately said "I'm going." So, we were in a quandary about childcare as the kids aren't supposed to come. Luckily, I emailed the teacher and she said that we could bring them, and she'll find something for the kids to do either in the hallway, or in the classroom next door. Sweet. Rudi is getting more and more involved and interested in Riley's schooling. I guess, to him, this is "real" school :)
I've been volunteering at Riley's school on a regular basis, every Tuesday afternoon for about 1.5 hours. It's quite amazing what goes on in a classroom. Very interesting to see. And I get to work with all the kids. It's been fun so far, and it's something for just Riley and me.
I am totally at a loss as to what to get for the girls for their birthdays and Christmas. They just really don't need any more stuff! I suppose I could get them each a nice outfit from Gymboree, perhaps some Legos since they don't take up room, and maybe Playmobil? It just seems like the same old crap I've been getting them for years. Maybe I need to take a solo expedition and see if I'm inspired...
