Renaissance Festival 2010!!
Sunday, August 1, 2010 by Amy
We finally made it to the last day of this year's RenFest, and our last in Colorado! The weather was a little warm at first, but it cooled off significantly as it threatened to rain after a while, but didn't actually rain until we got to our car several hours later. Phew.
We've already looked into Renaissance Festivals in Maine, and they do have one for one weekend only in May. I think Portland weather in May is definitely long-sleeved weather, which makes costuming easier. Rudi says that he wants me to make him a kilt and a shirt.
Riley getting her face painted: (Rudi seriously needs to check rices of things before suggesting it to the kids! The face painting was expensive!!)
Avery's face painting. She absolutely did not want glitter on her lips!:
Riley wanted to throw tomatoes at this guy. I warned her that it was an insult game and that they guy was going to make fun of her. She didn't mind at all. She got to lug five tomatoes at him! The crowd was so encouraging of her, and she sure had to be brave to endure it. The guy was a little more gentle with her since she was a kid, saying thinks like "hey little girl, pink smells like farts!" A group of young women stopped us on the way from the tomato-hurling game and gushed over the girls.
The "World's Largest Rocking Horse":
Riley was REALLY looking forward to the camel ride (although not as much as the elephant ride). Avery was terrified at first, but came around at the end! Riley was not too pleased that I had to come with her (I guess I am so not cool). Riley was not thrilled that she had to be in the back, but the rules are heaviest in the front:
Riley and Avery got to crack open a geode (or "dragon egg" as they called it at the RenFest). Look how Rudi is smiling like a kid behind them. He loves geodes!:
Avery on the llama. Riley rode too, but her eyes were on the magician giving a show, and all I could get was the back of her head all the time!:
Daddy and daughter :)
Riley and Avery watching the magician, who was pretty good, and funny too!:
Late lunch or early dinner? Riley and I had steak on a stake and Avery had sausage on a stake. They were delicious!! Riley was trying (unsuccessfully) to not mess up her lip glitter, hence the funny face!:
This is what Riley waited all day to do! The elephant ride! She was too young last time we went (2 years ago). Actually, I think we were too poor since I would have had to go with her, and I remember that we were flat broke last time we went! Again, Avery was terrified, but still wanted to go. Go figure.:
I think these were the best-buy of the day. They are a half-ball of italian ice frozen to half an orange. So delicious and refreshing. And the kids looks cute eating them too. We sat down and ate them while waiting for the Joust to the Death to start:
The girls posing by the garden on the way out. Strange thing it, as I was taking their picture, some dude takes a picture of them right next to me, with his cell phone camera. Goofy...and creepy.
Photo with the creepy people. I'm surprised that Avery volunteered for that picture!:
And as I blog this, it is after 10pm and the girls are still awake. How is that possible? We were at the Renaissance festival for about 6 hours, and away from home for about 8 hours! They should be passed out by now!
