Officially Retired!

So, Rudi is officially retired! I don't know how Social Security stuff works, but we got lucky with the woman who is handling his disability and retirement case. She is super-duper on-the-ball. She even called him on Saturday to take his applications. She returns calls within the hour (unheard of! LOL) We're talking the Social Security Administration here!
Also, according to his last benefits summary, he was supposed to receive about $700 a month in retirement. That's what we were planning for. Turns out it is a bit over $900. THEN, I get a call today that the girls will also receive retirement benefits, as well as disability benefits, in their own name, as will I! It's like Christmas! I will have to open savings accounts for the girls so that their money can be direct-deposited for them. How responsible of me :) I keep telling Rudi that contrary to his assertion that we are the unluckiest people around and that he's the whipping boy for the universe, things always work out for us. When we are at our worst, something amazing always happens. Maybe he'll believe me one of these days! I don't know how much extra we'll be getting, as the case worker's computer shut her out in the middle of taking the applications for the girls and I, so we'll complete them tomorrow. Geez, I never would have known that the girls and I would receive benefits too and I never would have asked!
Rudi and I were also talking today about me working a part-time job when we get to Portland. I just can't see myself staying home all the time now that Riley will be in school full-time, and Avery REALLY wants to go to preschool (I am still trying to figure out if Portland has public preschool). Especially since I will be taking a year off of school while I wait for residency before applying for graduate school. I just want a rinky-dink job, something to keep me occupied and get me out of the house.
I'm uploading 780 photos from my camera now, which isn't even all of them! So, I'll post Maryland pictures as soon as I can!
