The Chirstmas Tree

Yes, be bought one this year. Not too shabby a price, either, at $29. It's HUGE, though. I'd forgotten how big a normal tree is after a few years of Charlie Brown trees. It literally takes up all the available space in the room. Darn, it smells good, though!

Of course, the goof who sold us the tree at the grocery store secured it to the top of our car SIDEWAYS with two pieces of twine. TWO. What's up with that? He tied one piece from the trunk of the tree to a bar on the back of the car, and another piece from the top of the tree to the same bar. No twine going around the tree or over the tree. Can't everyone see how that totally wouldn't work? Yes, IT FELL OFF ON THE WAY HOME!!! Goober. And I'm a goober too for not speaking up when I saw the idiocy of it all (you know, the fragile male ego and all), but because I knew it was a shabby job, I had my eye on the rear window while driving, noticed it was falling off, and was able to quickly turn off the road when I knew it would fall.

It really is a beautiful tree, if I do say so myself. The lights from last year were shot, and I was sick of them anyway. We went for the big C9 bulbs, LED, the whole nine yards. I like the big bulbs because there's a little hook on each bulb to secure it to a tree branch. The lights stay put. We do like them. They look like ornaments. Sweet. The decorating is a work in progress because the kids keep wanting to put more and more on. Usually I just take some off at night, the ones that are overcrowded, and let them re-put them on in the morning. We did have to buy a lot more ornaments, though, as this tree is not as sparse as our previous trees! I also underestimated the number of light strands I would need, so need to get two more strands. The only thing about the LED lights is that they are a little soft and don't really illuminate the ornaments. Oh, well, you can't win them all.

Apparently, Riley has a "Christmas Wish" this year. For roller skates. She mentions them several times a day and tried to pout me into telling her if she's getting them or not. I mean, of course she is! Doesn't she know that by now? I think that roller skates must be a popular Christmas gift, as while I was pricing them online they were selling out everywhere right before my eyes. I finally snagged a pair at a reasonable price that I hope she likes. She's been BEGGING to go ice skating lately since the mother of a former classmate of hers is a figure skating coach and used to take the kindergarteners ice skating. I think she thinks that ice skating is a perk of being a kindergartener. Ha. I am afraid to take her, though. My worst nightmare would be for her to decide that she wants ice skates instead of roller skates LOL. But seriously, family skate is $3 per person including skate rentals. How affordable is that? Although, now that I think about it, if she decided she wants ice skates, there's always her birthday. I guess that's a good thing about having a birthday right after Christmas. It's like a second chance. And who the heck knows if I can still ice skate? I refuse to go back to the roller rink. That didn't turn out too well for me. I can tear up the joint in a pair of inline skates, but those were $6 to rent, so I went with the quads. Not fun at all.

Speaking of Riley's birthday, I booked her party at ArtSports Trampoline gym. Fun times. The good thing is that they only require a $40 deposit, and the rest after the party. Sweet. We can divide the cost between two months. She'll be over the moon. Now to figure out who to invite and such. Anyway, her party will be on Sunday January 10th.

Avery's birthday is on Monday! Holy cow! We're celebrating on Sunday, though, as I have a final Monday evening that absolutely cannot be missed, even for my darling little girl. She picked out a Wall-E cake at the grocery store.

Riley's make-shift Rudolph get-up. The girl sure has an imagination. An evil genius, you might say:

Better pictures will come later as it is a work in progress!!
